Ace The Final · Final Grade Calculator
What do you need on the final to get the grade you want?
Three numbers — where you stand, where you want to land, and how much the final counts — and you get the exact score you need. Not a vibe. A number you can plan your studying around.
How it works
- Enter your current grade — your grade in the class right now, before the final. It's in your LMS gradebook (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) or your last returned work.
- Enter the grade you want — the final course grade you're aiming for, as a percentage or a letter.
- Enter the final's weight — how much of your course grade the final exam is worth. It's in your syllabus, usually 20–40%.
- Read the verdict — the exact score you need on the final, plus a what-if table: what happens to your grade at every final score, so you can see the safe zone and the danger zone at a glance.
The formula (so you can check our math)
Worked example: you're at 84%, you want an 88%, and the final is worth 40% of your grade. Your current work locks in 84 × 0.6 = 50.4 points. You need 88 − 50.4 = 37.6 more points, and the final can supply them at 40% weight — so you need 37.6 ÷ 0.4 = 94.0% on the final. Steep, but knowable — and knowing beats guessing.
Two verdicts students find strangely calming: if the calculator says you need more than 100%, that goal is mathematically out of reach, and your energy belongs on the next goal down. If it says you need a negative number, your target is already locked in — the final can only help you. Either way, you stop refreshing the gradebook and start studying with a plan.
Questions students actually ask
What if the calculator says I need more than 100%?
Then that exact target can't happen anymore — the points no longer exist. That's not a disaster, it's information: aim the calculator at the next grade down and you'll get a number that's actually reachable, which is a much better thing to study toward.
Where do I find how much my final is worth?
Your course syllabus — look for the grading breakdown. If your final replaces your lowest test or is split into parts, use the total weight of all final components.
Does this work with letter grades?
Yes. Enter the percentage equivalents your school uses (A = 90–100, B = 80–89 on the standard scale) or work in percentages throughout — the math is the same.
My class is graded on points, not percentages. Does it still work?
Yes — convert once: your current grade is points earned ÷ points possible so far, and the final's weight is final points ÷ total course points. The formula takes it from there.
Is my data saved anywhere?
No. The calculator runs in your browser on this page. There are no accounts, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
